DANCING IN DISSENT

(Photos by unknown sources)

"We lost one of the good ones this week. Actually, one of the best ones. Dara Greenwald, artist, activist, thinker, organizer, and all-around inspirational person passed away this week from cancer at the age of 40." --Abigail Satinsky

Dara Greenwald was all of these things and more. I met her many years ago in Chicago, and was struck with how instantly she garnered my trust in her instincts and opinions. Not only was she a smiling powerhouse of solid thinking, she was a significant force in making things happen. Dara was a member (and mover-and-shaker) of Justseeds, Pink Bloque, United Victorian Workers, Ladyfest Midwest, Department of Space and Land Reclamation, Spectres of Liberty, the Interference Archive, Videofreex, Pilot TV as well as Distribution Manager at the Video Data Bank from 1998 to 2005 and co-curator of the exhibit on the history of social movements, Signs of Change.

Her absence will not only be felt in the hearts of her friends, but in the activist and art communities for many years to come.
