PILLAGE THE PRIVILEGED

Photos from the raucous Viking Parade opening of Dennis McNett's solo show at Joshua Liner Gallery. Live drummers played inside the viking ship as it paraded around Chelsea with a horde of vocal vikings surrounding it. Once back at the gallery Natur played a set inside another viking ship while people set off fireworks and launched homemade hot air ballons.

BRINGING YOUR BONES ALIVE

(Monica Canilao and Saelee Oh working on their houses in Detroit)

Monica's installation involved transforming the exterior of the house with paint and found materials. Inside she transformed the second floor living room with a giant moving chandelier that touched the floor. Two other bedrooms received installations as well. Saelee worked in and around a pre-existing installation in her house, contributing her own stylized storybook world.

WEAR YOUR WEAR-N-TEAR WELL

(RETNA and Richard Colman collaborating on their house in Detroit)

RETNA and Richard Colman decided to both work on the same house, and by using the same three colors (black, white, silver) they could mesh their work together. I think it worked pretty damn well.

NOTHING RIVALS THE ACT OF DISCOVERY

(Photos of Ben Wolf at work and Swoon's installation in Detroit)

I recently had the good fortune to be able to be a part of a (previously mentioned) project put on by Juxtapoz in Detroit. A handful of artists were given abandoned houses to transform into art installations. The houses were either next door to each other, or across the street. The participating artists included Swoon, RETNA, Monica Canilao, Richard Colman, Saelee Oh and Ben Wolf. The project will appear in the February issue of Juxtapoz, but until then I am leaking a few images you won't see in the magazine. More of the other artists to come...
