YOUR CRACKS ARE HIGHLIGHTED IN THE GLARE OF ANOTHER FEBRUARY

(!!! performing at a semi-private show in Brooklyn this past weekend)

Two quotes that have made me realize I need to think less and read more.

"Don't tell me how educated you are, tell me how much you've traveled."
-- Muhammad the prophet

"In destroying the squats, New York is destroying homes, punishing initiative, undoing community improvement, criminalizing hard work, squelching ambition, and killing hope and serenity. In other words, it is attacking itself."

AND THEN I PULLED A PUBIC HAIR OUT OF MY TEETH

(Amateur Female Jello Wrestling)

I have some work in this cool show/event coming up this weekend put on by the Brooklyn Art Collective. I can vouch for the quality of Narchitect and the dancibilty of Stachemaster, plus and open bar and some cool art. . . sounds like a pretty good deal for fun in February.

"Go, Icarus!"
February, 17 2007
The Brooklyn Art Collective (@ The White Room)
South 3rd and Roebling, Brooklyn/Williamsburg, New York 11211
Cost : $7

The Brooklyn Art Collective brings its fifth and largest group exhibition to “The White Room,” located at 235 Roebling St. at South 3 rd in the developing art community of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The work of twenty artists from the borough's most creative communities comes together to create a compelling experience that establishes a dialogue between the commonplace and the interpretations of those who transcend it. The exhibition will be followed by performances from Narchitect, Rocket Surgery, Bones of Davy Jones, and special guests. DJ's Stachemaster, and Code-D willing be spinning throughout the night. The $7 cover after 8pm includes an open bar from 9-10 pm.

“Go, Icarus!” is a group show delivered with the self-deprecating humor of an organization dedicated to the hard-earned successes life and the achievement of higher artistic realization through experimentation and dedication to a common cause. Work from the collective celebrates the personal phenomenon of growth through pain, loss, and collapsing just short of the finish line. This exhibition takes aim and fires at the heralding of champions, the glory of first prize, at first stab, and begs the question, “What exactly is the value of absolute success, and what is it worth without a little struggle?”

---> J, M, and Z train to Marcy Ave. station, or L train to Bedford Ave. B44 bus to Roebling St.

YOU BUILD YOUR BED ON BROKEN HEARTS

(the lovely St. Vincent performing at the Bowery Ballroom)

St. Vincent (aka Annie Clark) just played the Bowery Ballroom this past weekend. I was familiar with a handful of her songs (and if you read this regularly, you probably are as well), but I had never seen her perform. Wow. Up on stage she is this delicate nervous girl, but once she starts singing the whole audience is swooped up and held rapt in her palm. It was pretty amazing to see such a rich, sincere, beautiful performance. It was also wonderful to enjoy it surrounded by an audience that seemed just as entranced as you were. If you get a chance to see her live during her constant touring I would highly recommend it. This girl is talent.

I ONLY ASKED YOU OUT CAUSE I THOUGHT YOU'D SAY YES

(Girl Talk performing at Studio B in Brooklyn)

Girl Talk performed with Parts & Labor this past Friday. I missed P&L's set due to an amazingly sluggish guest list line (they were giving priority to ticket holders, since they paid money), but Girl Talk was pure pandemonium. Tons of people rushing the stage, dancing on his table, unplugging his laptop, crowd surfing, dancing, and kind of crushing each other. . . it was something. The bouncers freaked out (as seems to be their job) and took stations up on the stage to grab anyone that got within reach. And all through it, Mr. Girl Talk just kept going, kept dancing, kept losing more clothing. He ended it in just his boxer shorts and socks, sweating and out of breath. But wow, I had no idea teenage groupies could have sex with someone with just their eyes. That alone was impressive.

This song has been making the rounds as of late. Some sort of electro-rapping dancing thing. I can't say I know much about Uffie (check the comments for more info), I found this track on a comp put out by Vice Records. And I am probably jumping a gun on something, but I find a song about a 9mm pistol kind of odd coming from what appears to be a white teenage upper?middle-class girl. Tell me how wrong I am.

THROWING OUT YOUR FRUSTRATIONS, ONE PHOTO ALBUM AT A TIME

I spent most of today sorting through over 100 lbs of photos, starting pretty much from back when I moved to NYC. Quite a trip to take yourself back through over nine years of your life in random images. And now I have two 50 lb garbage bags to put out for recycling.

And thanks to Chief Mag for throwing a fun-as-hell Super Bowl party. Watching Leaders and The Goddamn Rattlesnake at halftime was way better than Prince's exaggerated-manhood display. And the Best Fwends segway into a dance party was a nice way to end a Sunday night. So who won anyway, the white helmets or the blue ones?

RIDING BIKES IN THE SNOW AND OATMEAL FOR SUPPER

Working 14/16 hour days sucks, especially when they are all piled on top of each other. Last week didn't even exist for me. However this week I ended up at a public school in Inwood (north tip of Manhattan) to help out a friend. It was cool, although some of the Harry Potter murals in the hallway kinda creeped me out.
