SMILING WHILE SHE VACUUMS HER HAIR

so the other night i went exploring. there is a huge raised highway that snakes it's way through the city, essentially the main artery for the majority of traffic. they call it "the worm." imagine if the BQE went up fifth avenue through manhattan and into the bronx, that's pretty much it. apparently they close the worm one night a week (not sure why). and by chance it happened to be closed that night. the worm was silent and still, sparsely populated only by a few joggers, bikers, and dog-walkers. . . all cradled between walls of warmly-colored apartment buildings. it's kind of strange to be walking along and have someone stick their head out of a third story window, and be staring you eye-to-eye.

you know you're in good hands when the first thing you do when you get to brazil is sit down and watch the video and making-of for "What's Up Fatlip?" Fatlip was the member of Pharcyde who got the boot a while ago. and for my money that is all good and fine, if that's what it took to bring us this. you really should track down the video by Spike Jonze if you can. it's amazing how good something can be when people don't take themselves too seriously.

• Fatlip - What's Up Fatlip?

buy music, especially independent.

  3. I think that Fatlip song may be playing at a slower speed (prob. transferred from vinyl?). If you've ever seen the video on the Spike Jonze DVD, the song is a little faster and his voice doesn't sound as drunkenly muffled.

  4. i checked the track against a few others i could find online, they all sounded the same to me. i haven't been able to check it against the video though. i'd be curious if it really is that different.
